Warsaw/Minsk: – Poland has begun constructing a metal wall on the Belarus border in fear of hybrid warfare threat from Belarus, which is known to support Russia. As informed by Polish officials, the wall is expected to be 115 miles long, equipped with thermal cameras, motion sensors and alarms and is expected to be completed by June.
In the last few months, the tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated on the border. Belarus has supported Russia’s stand. It is known that Russian fighter jets, bombers, missiles, and troops are already positioned in Belarus. There are claims of Russia trying to use Belarus to attack Ukraine. There are allegations of Russia trying to use Belarus to destabilize the European region.
Last year, Belarus pushed a lot of immigrants into Poland and Lithuania, due to which Poland and Lithuania had enhanced their security deployment on the border. Poland had declared emergence near its border areas, while Lithuania built a barbed-wire fence along its border. However, Poland has decided to take additional steps to build a metal wall on the Belarus border. It would be 18 feet high and would cost about 400 million dollars. Polish authorities have informed that the construction of this wall has already commenced.
Poland is constructing a wall because of the flow of illegal immigrants, which Belarus is pushing into Poland. The European Union has accused Belarus of adopting hybrid warfare using illegal immigrants. Poland has supported the accusation. The European Union has drawn attention to the threats issued in the same context by Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus.
