Biden administration must reject Taliban if it cares for US security: US analyst Michael Rubin

Washington: – US analyst Michael Rubin has lambasted ‘President Joe Biden should reject the efforts being made in the United Nations, to recognise Taliban, if he cares for the security of the Afghan people, the war against terrorism and the United States. At the same time, he should announce support for the northern alliance.’

Michael Rubin, an analyst with the US, think tank, American Enterprise Institute (AEI), has lashed out at the stand of the Biden administration regarding Afghanistan in an article written for a US newspaper. Three months have been completed for the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. However, President Biden and his administration are still blaming the former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for the current situation in Afghanistan.

It was decided in the Doha agreement that the US military will withdraw from Afghanistan only after complete peace is established in Afghanistan. Rubin reminded that the decisions of the Biden administration, saying that even in that scenario, the Biden administration exhibited tremendous haste in withdrawing the military. Rubin claimed that the announcements made by the Biden administration regarding the ‘Over the Horizon’ attacks, meaning airstrikes, were fake.

For this, Rubin pointed out that the influence of terrorist organisations is growing in Afghanistan. Even now, the Biden administration has a false expectation that a terrorist organisation like the Taliban will take action against other terrorist organisations in Afghanistan. Rubin pointed out that instead of fighting terrorist organisations, the Taliban deploy their suicide bombers near the Tajik border.

The Taliban, thus involved in terrorist activities, is lobbying for UN recognition. China and Russia may recognise the Taliban regime. Other members of the United Nations also will not oppose the Taliban regime. As per these countries, the Biden administration has not yet instructed them to vote against the Taliban. Rubin accused the Biden administration itself is backing the efforts of the United States to recognise the Taliban.

Recognition of the Taliban would jeopardise US security. Rubin warned, therefore, the Biden administration must thwart ongoing efforts to recognise the Taliban at the United Nations if it cares for the security of the United States.
