China poses a bigger threat to the US national security: FBI Chief

Washington – Christopher Wray, the Chief of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), warned, ‘Chinese government’s disregard for global leadership norms, ruthless hunger for economic superiority, and desire to influence American politics, make it a threat to US national security.’ Wray warned that the Chinese threat to Western countries and the United States is being prominently exposed and the losses caused by this threat are also huge. FBI has issued an independent advisory for the athletes participating in the winter Olympics in Beijing. It has recommended using Burner Phones instead of their regular phones.

During the tenure of former President Donald Trump, the United States had initiated an aggressive diplomatic conflict with China. Although new President Joe Biden was forced to continue with these policies, the edge of the actions has blunted. Against this background, the presentation of facts behind the activities of the Chinese regime but the FBI Chief becomes significant. Before this, even in 2020, Wray had pointed to the rising Chinese threat. Reiterating this during the function organized by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, he warned that the Chinese threat is increasing furthermore.

Moreover, the FBI Chief warned, ‘The threat’s complexity is rooted in the intrinsic entanglement of the American and Chinese economies, fuelled by a high US demand for Chinese-made products and a steady exchange of students between American and Chinese borders. China has pulled no punches about capitalizing on this interconnectedness to chase economic superiority. Over 2,000 of these projects are focused on the Chinese government trying to steal our information or technology. There is just no country that presents a broader threat to our ideas, our innovation, and our economic security than China.’

Meanwhile, Wray pointed out that the Chinese regime does not stop at espionage or cyberattacks to get something but will use any available means to achieve the objective, making the Chinese policy a still bigger threat. The FBI chief also warned that China would not be satisfied only with economic domination; it wants to intrude into the US internal systems and weaken them.
