Dubai: The gigantic ship that was sailing to Europe with a thousand containers is stranded in the Suez Canal. Moreover, this MV Ever Given container ship has jammed the maritime ships at large. This has immensely affected the busiest international trade routes. As per the claim, this ship seems to be stranded due to strong winds.
On Tuesday, MV Ever Given, known as the world’s largest container ship, got stranded in the Suez Canal. Taiwan based shipping company- Evergreen Marine Cooperation operates this container ship. This container ship had the flag of Panama from Central America. This ship was travelling from Asia to Europe. Moreover, it had chosen the route via the Suez Canal.
After reaching the middle of the Suez Canal, this ship got stuck facing to the east. As per the photographs published by satellite and local press, the Ever Given ship has rammed into the bank of the Suez Canal. However, the volume of damage to this ship has not yet been confirmed. But, this ship full of containers, stuck in this canal, has jammed the route for other ships.
However, neither the company that controls traffic at Suez Canal nor the Egyptian agencies have disclosed this accident’s real cause. But, an Egyptian official provided this information to the press with a condition not to disclose his name. On Tuesday, this belt was hit by strong winds. This wind travelled at the speed of 50 kilometres per hour, and the dust cyclone caused the ship to dash into the Suez Canal bank, informed the official.
Moreover, the officials and employees of this ship are safe. Also, no containers got damaged. But, since the ship is stuck between the route that connects Asia and Europe, this has caused a massive traffic jam. Besides, 50 container ships travel via this route every day. These containers contain crude oil worth million dollars, grains and other utility equipment. If these ships do not reach their destination in time, they can result in enormous damage. Hence, extensive efforts are being made to safely park Ever Given ship at the bank and ensure a smooth traffic flow.
Suez Canal that connects the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, is a significant maritime route. Hence, the security and safety of this maritime route are important. Earlier, in 1967, during its war with Israel, Egypt had blocked this route and jammed the international trade. Furthermore, in 2014, international analysts had warned that militants from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula pose a grave threat to the traffic in this Suez Canal. A few weeks ago, the Houthi Rebels from Yemen were accused of attacking trade ships in the Red Sea that leads to the Suez Canal.
