Famine forces Afghan parents to sell their children

Kabul: – Afghans in dire starvation have been forced to sell their children. A news agency reported that Afghans, who have nothing left to sell, have to sell their children for food and medicines. Earlier, the UN had clearly warned that a terrible humanitarian crisis would hit Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. According to a United Nations report, more than 9 million people are starving in Afghanistan, and another 23 million people in the country are facing food shortages.

Four months ago, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s economy was completely dependent on international aid. Afghanistan’s economy was supported by the United States, the European Union, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. While humanitarian assistance was supplied to the people of Afghanistan by different UN organisations. But since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, Western nations have cut off aid to Afghanistan. After the US and Taliban reached an agreement in Doha, the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. But the United States has said it would not recognise the Taliban’s rule, saying the Taliban did not comply with the terms of the agreement. No other country has so far dared to recognise the Taliban regime.

The radical policies of the Taliban are responsible for this and Taliban terrorists have started unending atrocities on officers, staff, army and police force personnel involved in the previous government. Moreover, the Taliban has also denied permission for women to work outside the house besides denying girls education. These radical policies have ruled out the possibility of the Taliban gaining recognition.

In such a scenario, the Taliban is using the hunger and unemployment of the Afghan people as a weapon. The Taliban and Pakistan have been calling for the recognition of the Taliban regime, saying that if the Taliban is recognised, it will be easier to provide direct assistance to the Afghan people. In a similar vein, China is seeking recognition of the Taliban regime. The ordinary Afghan people are being hit by the terrible politics of the Taliban and Pakistan. That is why starving Afghans have been forced to sell their children.

The neighbouring countries had long realised that such a situation would come to Afghanistan. Thus, Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which border Afghanistan, took timely steps to secure their borders. This happened because they feared that terrorists would infiltrate their country in the name of Afghan refugees. Russia has openly expressed this concern and said that Russia is also at risk.

Countries have taken action, recognising that no security measure will stop the flow of Afghan refugees in the wake of the escalating famine. India and Russia, along with Central Asian countries, are ready to assist each other on the issue. At the same time, these countries are making urgent efforts to provide much-needed assistance to the Afghan people.
