California: The leading information technology company ‘Google’ has claimed to have successfully developed and tested ‘Quantum Computing’ processor, capable of finishing a job that would take the present supercomputers 10,000 years, in a matter of three minutes. The test was named ‘Quantum Supremacy’ by Google and its CEO, Sundar Pichai claimed that the invention was as crucial as the first rocket fired into space.
Hartmut Neven, a researcher, working at Google, presented a plan on Quantum Computing in 2006. An article published by Pichai states that Google had then assigned the responsibility to an independent group, called the Google AI Quantum. The Google group had achieved success in developing Quantum’s Sycamore processor as also in the tests conducted on the supercomputer.
The complete details of the test named the ‘Quantum Supremacy’ were released by Google in the science magazine – ‘Nature’. The article claims that Quantum Supremacy was a breakthrough in quantum computing. The people connected to the test claimed that it proved no obstacles remained in taking the concept of superfast computers to fruition.
Quantum Computing is based on the principles of Quantum Physics, one of the fastest developing fields in science. The researchers working in the area claimed that the technology had the capability of processing colossal amounts of data at lightning speeds. Quantum Computing would help in easy management of complicated tasks in varied fields from the development of new medical drugs to controlling traffic in a large metropolis.
Along with Google, the leading information technology companies such as Microsoft, IBM and Intel are also working on Quantum Computing and have made massive investments for the purpose.
