China’s conflict with India and Taiwan will escalate if the aggression is not stopped, infers analyst Gordon Chang

London: – Renowned analyst Gordon Chang warned that if China does not stop its aggressive activities, a conflict may flare up between China and Taiwan, as well as India. Chang claimed that the QUAD cooperation between India, the United States, Japan and Australia strengthened only because of the Chinese aggression. During an interview with a British daily, Gordon Chang inferred that all the countries have become aware of the Chinese threat to their security.

Currently, a trade war is on between China and Australia. Australia has taken some tough decisions against China. Australia is demanding an unbiased and thorough investigation into the accusation that the Coronavirus pandemic originated from a laboratory at Wuhan in China. An Australian daily published a report exposing the alleged Chinese preparations, since 2015, to use Coronavirus pandemic as a bioweapon. Even before that, a senior Australian official had claimed that the war trumpets were already audible, clearly presenting the Chinese threat to the country.

Gordon Chang said that despite all this, war would not be sparked between China and Australia. It is impossible that China will initiate military action against Australia, as the distance between the two countries is too great. Chang made a significant claim that China will use other tactics to target this country instead of military action. Although not mentioned clearly, Chang seems to be cautioning Australia, pointing out that China will use various ways to bring Australia to its knees.

But China has started military movements against India and Taiwan. Chang warned that if this increased, there is a strong possibility of a conflict. The frequency and intensity of Chinese intrusions in the Taiwanese airspace have currently increased. The situation is such that there can be a Chinese attack on Taiwan at any point in time. In this scenario, even the United States will not be able to help Taiwan and China. Its agents are warning that if the United States enters the war in support of Taiwan, the United States will be defeated. Therefore, the significance of the warnings issued by internationally renowned columnist Gordon Chang increases further.

On the other hand, China is preparing to increase pressure on India with additional military deployment on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. Indian Defence Chief General Bipin Rawat had said, ‘China attempted to pressurise India on the LAC in Ladakh. But China failed in pushing the Indian military back. The Indian Army stood on the LAC as a rock, which delivered a major jolt to China.’ Chinese mouthpiece, The Global Times, had taken a note of General Rawat’s statements. Therefore, the Ladakh issue has become a matter of Chinese prestige on the international level. Thus, China is making huge deployments in the Tibet region near the LAC in Ladakh. The Indian Army is closely monitoring the Chinese movements.

In this scenario, China can indulge in another military adventure on the LAC, in Ladakh or some other part to regain the lost pride. The concern expressed by Gordon Chang that a conflict could flare up because of this cannot be denied.
