Washington/Beijing: – Jake Tapper, an American journalist and news reporter, said ‘Hollywood’ the film industry in the United States, the sports body NBA and multinational corporations have been blinded by the economic benefits from China and are not able to see the atrocities perpetrated by the communist regime. No matter how expensive the soap they use, the blood on their hands will never go away. Tapper also lashed out at Hollywood, the NBA and US companies, citing atrocities against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang and Chinese tennis player Peng Shui.
On Sunday, Tapper, working for CNN for several years, slammed Hollywood and others. In a program called ‘State of the Union’, Tapper raised the issue of Chinese tennis player Peng Shui, Uyghur people and human rights in China. The CNN spokesmen made a crushing accusation ‘Millionaires and billionaires from Hollywood, NBA, IOC and Wall Street are greedy for Chinese money. They do not see the Chinese regime’s atrocities and human rights violations.
‘The point is that the Olympics should be free of politics. But the Chinese issues have nothing to do with politics. The allegations against China’s ruling regime are more serious than the treatment meted out to Peng Shui.’ Tapper said. This time he welcomed the decision taken by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). WTA President Steve Simon had protested against China by releasing a large handout questioning the security of Peng Shui. A shock was also delivered to China by announcing the cancellation of women’s tennis tournaments in China and Hong Kong next year. However, Tapper lamented that neither such action was taken by other organizations nor in any other sector.
Apple, Nike and several multinational corporations in the United States sell products made in the Uyghur torture camps in the Xinjiang province to the American people. Although they openly speak out against ‘slave labour,’ they are actually making millions of dollars from products manufactured by them, said journalist Jake Tapper. Targeting Hollywood at the end of its program, he also accused this industry of kneeling in front of China‘s ruling regime. The US Congress had earlier lashed out at the multinationals and the NBA through a letter. But even then, sports organizations in the United States, along with Hollywood and other companies, have been pursuing policies favourable to China.
