Indian Foreign Minister lambastes at Pakistan in SCO meeting

New Delhi: “Even as the world fights COVID-19, some are busy spreading other deadly viruses such as terrorism”, commented Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. Besides, without even naming the country, he further added that Pakistan is also propagating fake news. On Wednesday, the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation’s conference of international foreign ministers took place through a video-call. Wherein, Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar presented the point of terrorism in the presence of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister. Earlier, PM Modi had addressed this issue of terrorism in NAM’s (Non-Alignment Movement) summit and criticised Pakistan.

China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are the member countries of SCO. In 2017, the SCO developed a better influence after India joined as a member. On Wednesday, the SCO meeting about the Coronavirus pandemic took place on a video-call conference. Moreover, the meeting also included a discussion on the solution to curb the influence of this virus. But, at the same time, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar took a dig at Pakistan over the issue of terrorism. He expressed concern that terrorism continues to be an overwhelming threat to security and stability in the SCO region and would require collective action. This criticism affected Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Qureshi, who attended the meeting as well. As usual, he responded to the criticism by bringing up the fictitious issue of the atrocities faced by the civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. However, nobody paid any attention to what he said. Meanwhile, apart from the Coronavirus issue, the Afghanistan Peace Treaty was also discussed upon in this SCO conference. However, no details of it have been published as of yet.
