Jerusalem: Israel has criticized statements made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. Israel said in a statement that the Russian Foreign Minister blames Jews for the genocide. Israel has issued a summons to the Russian ambassador, announcing that Russia should apologize to the Jews.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave an interview to Italian news channel Zona Bianca on Sunday. The interview was based on the Russia-Ukraine war that has been going on for more than two months. During the interview, an Italian journalist questioned the Russian Foreign Minister about Russian statements regarding Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Russia announced a few weeks ago that the war in Ukraine was for Ukrainian independence from the Nazis. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov cited that Soviet Russia attacked Nazi armies and liberated Jews in World War II. An Italian journalist quoted Ukrainian President Zelensky saying that he was also Jewish. Speaking on occasion, the Russian Foreign Minister criticized Zelensky for not changing the reality of Nazism in Ukraine, even though he was Jewish. “I think Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler was of Jewish descent,” said Lavrov.
Russia’s foreign minister has linked Hitler, responsible for Jewish genocides, to the Jews, sparking outrage in Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has accused that an attempt is being made to blame the Jews for the worst genocide of Jews in history with this falsehood. The Israeli Prime Minister also called for an immediate end to the use of Jewish genocide for political purposes.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid criticized the Russian Foreign Minister’s statements as unforgivable and reprehensible. Israeli Foreign Minister has demanded that Lavrov has made a horrific “historic mistake” and should apologize to Jews. Blaming Jews for the genocide of Jews is the lowest level of racism, said Foreign Minister Lapid. The Israeli Foreign Minister then summoned Russian ambassador Anatoly Viktorov. He also demanded that Russia must clarify Lavrov’s statements.
Hitler, meanwhile, had nothing to do with Jews. But Israeli leaders have accused others of plotting to discredit Jews. Israeli analysts have warned that Foreign Minister Lavrov’s remarks could affect relations between Israel and Russia.
