Manila: – Philippines has said, ‘If peace and democracy are to be re-established in Myanmar, participation of the democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, placed under house arrest by the Junta regime, becomes inevitable in the process.’ At the same time, saying that the arrest of Suu Kyi is completely wrong, the Philippines accused the military regime of misusing the judicial system to finish its opponents.
A few days ago, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen visited Myanmar and met the chief of the Junta regime. Strong reactions had been received from within Myanmar and on the international level over the visit. Cambodia is currently the President of ASEAN, the association of the South East Asian countries. Therefore, criticism had been made that the visit by Hun Sen amounts to recognition of the Junta regime by ASEAN. At the same time, some of the newspapers had pointed out that the Cambodian foreign policies are pro-Chinese.
In this scenario, the demand raised by the Philippines for the inclusion of Suu Kyi in the peace process becomes significant. Along with this, Filipino Foreign Minister Theodore Locsin drew the world’s attention towards the atrocities of the Junta regime with solid criticism.
