Moscow/Kyiv: Russia has stepped up its attack on Ukraine, including the city of Bakhmut. On Thursday and Saturday, Russia fired more than 40 missiles that blew up a central Ukraine refinery. This is the second major attack in the last two weeks. Satellite photos confirm Russia’s preparation for a major attack. Russia has established a new military base about 170 km from the Ukrainian border.
Next week marks one year since the Russia-Ukraine conflict started. President Vladimir Putin needs to demonstrate major success. Hence, the attacks on Ukraine have been more aggressive, intense, and widespread, covering most of Ukraine’s provinces and major cities.
On Thursday, Russia fired nearly 36 missiles at various cities in Ukraine, including eastern, southern, and central Ukraine. A refinery in Kremenchuk in central Ukraine and military bases, power stations and other facilities were targeted. KH-31 and Oniks Cruise Missiles were used for the attacks.
Moreover, Kalibr missiles were fired from the warships stationed in the Black Sea on Saturday and directed towards the Khmelnytskyi region of western Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities reported damage to military buildings, civilian buildings, and some vehicles. Ukraine claimed to have shot down about 50 per cent of the Russian missiles in the attacks on Thursday and Saturday.
Furthermore, as one year is about to be completed of the war, the Western countries and Ukraine have claimed that Russia would launch a new offensive. There were satellite photographs to support the claims, which indicate new military camps being built in the Voronezh region, about 170 miles from the Ukrainian border, with the movement of large numbers of military units and weapons. Russia had mobilized its resources since the conflict commenced. There are claims that Russia can deploy nearly 300,000 soldiers for a fresh offensive move.
Meanwhile, leading US journalist Seymour Hersh claimed that believing Ukraine will win the battle against Russia is suicidal. He also criticized Western countries, including the US, for providing military assistance to Ukraine. Instead, the US and other countries should have diplomatically engaged with Russia to resolve the issue.
