Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that the people of France should start saving electricity now. Otherwise, they will face a big crisis in winter. Macron also alleged that Russia is using fuel exports as a weapon of war and may cut off fuel supplies completely. Besides, the French President assured that the French government has prepared a comprehensive plan to deal with this crisis.
Moreover, Russia has significantly reduced its fuel supplies to European countries. Technical reasons have been put forward for this and it has been claimed that Russia will restore fuel supply once it is fulfilled. However, there is an atmosphere of concern in European countries due to Russia’s activities and warnings were given that Russia may completely stop fuel supply. Therefore, the leading European countries have started working on emergency plans and people are also being urged to save electricity.
Furthermore, the appeal made by the French President is also a part of it. France is known as a self-sufficient country in the field of energy. More than 70 per cent of France’s electricity needs are met through nuclear power. But in the past few months, several nuclear power plants in France have been shut down for maintenance, repair and other technical reasons. As a result, energy production in France is in trouble and the use of natural gas and crude oil has been forced to increase.
A few days ago, Florent Menegaux, the head of the leading company in France, ‘Michelin’, informed that the French industry has been working on oil and coal-powered systems. In contrast, senior ministers in France have indicated that the industry should be prepared to stop work for some time.
