Kyiv: Oleksandr Nakonechnyi, a senior officer of Ukraine’s main intelligence agency ‘SBU’, has died. Nakonechnyi served as the head of the intelligence service in the Kirovograd region in central Ukraine. Darya Dugin, the daughter of Alexander Dugin, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was murdered in Russia on Saturday. The news of Nakonechnyi’s death coming out after this incident has drawn attention.
Moreover, Nakonechnyi’s body was found in his house in Kropyvnytskyi, the capital of Kirovograd, on Saturday night. His body has bullet wounds. Nakonechnyi’s wife informed the security agencies about his death. After that, an investigation was started into the matter. A local political leader took to social media to claim that Nakonechnyi had committed suicide. But the security agencies have not confirmed it.
Oleksandr Nakonechnyi was the local head of the intelligence service ‘SBU’ since January 2021. Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of the country’s intelligence service and the Prosecutor General. President Zelensky claimed that many officers from both these departments were working for the Russian intelligence service. He also warned that legal action had been initiated against several senior officials.
Meanwhile, Russia claimed that the Ukrainian agencies were behind the murder of Darya Dugin in the Russian capital Moscow on Saturday. A Ukrainian agent entered Moscow to kill Alexander Dugin and Darya Dugin. Russian officials said the agent fled through Estonia after the explosion.
