Riyadh/Davos: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel’s desire to include Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords and the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco. In a meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the Israeli Prime Minister discussed the Abraham Accords and Saudi Arabia’s inclusion. But Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal appealed that Israel should take steps to resolve the Palestine issue through discussion. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan recently visited Israel. This is the first time a senior US official has visited Israel since Benjamin Netanyahu’s government came to power in Israel. On this occasion, Sullivan held a virtual meeting with the National Security Advisers of the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco, who are part of the Abraham Accord with Israel. In a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Sullivan raised the issue of the creation of Palestine.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, the growing influence of Iran-affiliated terrorist organizations in the Middle East, and the inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords. Netanyahu explained that there is a need to expand the circle of Abraham Accords and that he discussed with Sullivan about including Saudi Arabia in this. But Israel had already made it clear that this is impossible unless the tension between the US and Saudi Arabia is resolved.
During the discussion between the Prime Minister of Israel and the US National Security Adviser in Jerusalem, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan was asked a question about his participation in the Abraham Accords at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. At that time, the Saudi foreign minister expressed his expectations from Israel. Israel should make serious efforts to resolve the Palestine issue. Prince Faisal believed that this issue would be resolved only through discussions between the two countries. But the Saudi foreign minister claimed that Israel’s government did not appear to be too enthusiastic about resolving the issue.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his readiness to join the Abraham Accords with Israel a few months ago. But even then, Prince Mohammed bin Salman raised the issue of Palestine. Israel’s government at the time sidelined talks on Palestine, as well as the inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords.
Meanwhile, peace talks between Israel and Palestine have stalled since 2014. The talks are said to have stalled after Israel began building settlements for refugees in parts of the West Bank. Efforts were made to start this discussion in Israel-Palestine. But due to differences between the two countries’ leaders, the discussion could not move forward.
