Washington – A group of retired US army officials claimed that Iran is almost on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon which can cause instability and crisis in the Middle East. Israel is the only country which can stop this from happening. Hence the US must urgently provide the needed weapons to Israel.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern and informed that Iran has the necessary centrifuges and enriched uranium to develop a nuclear weapon. The group’ Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA)’ of retired army officers have sent an appeal letter to Congress on behalf of 44 retired army officers of the rank of General and Admiral.
Last week, it was revealed that the Biden administration had diverted a stockpile of weapons to Ukraine, which was reserved for Israel. The Biden administration remains firm on resolving Iran’s nuclear program through diplomatic negotiations. The members of JINSA pointed out that although a diplomatic engagement is a good option, however, to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, negotiations would not help, and the only alternative is to provide Israel with needed weapons to stop Iran.
The retired army officials cited the Ukraine war, which has been going on for over a year. Hence in the appeal letter, there is a suggestion to arm Israel to secure the US allies before a new conflict erupts in the Middle East. Retired Vice Admiral Herman Shelanski explained to the Israeli daily that the US should supply weapons to Israel before the conflict flares up, just like military aid provided to Ukraine.
The letter recommends a list of which the US should sell Israel, which includes KC-46 Pegasus tanker aircraft, McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning fighter jets and missiles which can penetrate precise targets. ‘The US military officials recognize that a nuclear-armed Iran threatens the security of our nation and interests. Israel can deter and respond to this nuclear threat from Iran. That is why JINSA has submitted this letter to the US Congress. This will wake up the Democrats and Republicans in Congress and decide to arm Israel,’ said JINSA president and former military officer Michelle Makowski. Meanwhile, despite the warning from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Biden administration is determined to negotiate with Iran and settle the dispute through a nuclear deal. But the letter reveals that US military officials are against it.
