As ‘Title 42’ expires, millions of immigrants arrive at US border

Washington – Title 42, implemented by former US President Donald Trump to stop the flow of refugees, expired Thursday night. As this provision will not be enforced, the news media has reported that millions of refugees have entered the US-Mexico border to take advantage of the opportunity. It was also warned that 10,000 to 15,000 refugees would enter the US daily for the next few days. In the wake of the events, local administrations in Florida and Texas, located on the Mexican border, have started taking swift steps.

‘Title 42’After Joe Biden and the Democratic Party took over the reins of the United States, refugees infiltrating the country received unrestricted access. Many tough decisions and measures taken by former President Donald Trump were revoked. The Biden administration had also planned to legalize one million immigrants who had already entered and would be entering the United States. Nevertheless, there were strong reactions from states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona, located on the Mexican border.

‘Title 42’Infiltration has sharply surged since the Biden administration adopted a lenient policy on refugees crossing the border. Border security and refugee agencies have reported record levels of infiltration into the United States over the past two years. The Republican Party has started raising this issue very aggressively and has subbed the border situation of being a ‘border crisis’. Border problems have also increased human trafficking, drug trade, crime, violence, arms trafficking, and sexual abuse.

‘Title 42’Along with the Republican Party, some leaders and members of the Democratic Party have also started raising their voices on this issue, forcing the Biden administration to act. That is why, while the provision of ‘Title 42’ is being repealed, a decision for a separate bill and additional security deployment has been taken. Nevertheless, these last-minute moves will prove ineffective, current and former officials and analysts have criticized.

On the other hand, local governments in Texas and Florida, which are aware of the ineffectiveness of the Biden administration, have taken aggressive steps to stop the intruders. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new bill on Wednesday to curb the influx of immigrants. It includes provisions to the effect that infiltrating refugees will not be granted asylum in Florida. Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has significantly stepped up deployment for security along the border. At the same time, additional wire fences are being put up to prevent immigrants from entering the province, and cameras have also been installed in some areas. A state of emergency has also been declared in some cities in Texas.
