A few months after the Ukraine conflict began, there were accusations that Russia was using Iranian-made drones to attack Ukraine. The US and European countries reacted to this. However, Iran denied the allegations and said it was not supplying drones to Russia. But White House spokesman John Kirby has alleged that till now, Iran has provided Russia with about 400 UAVs since August last year. Kirby added that Russia was using Shahed-range UAVs to launch attacks on infrastructure projects in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, and other areas. Kirby also claimed that they were preparing to get more drones from Iran. Kirby claimed while Russia’s stockpile of weapons for war was running low, Russia has been heavily dependent on these drones from Iran.
While Kirby’s allegations come out, research fellows James Phillips and Peter Brookes of the Heritage Foundation, a leading US think tank, have warned against cooperation between Russia and Iran. Stating that the cooperation between Russia and Iran has been going on for 500 years, these research fellows made aware that it has a very long history. James Phillips and Peter Brookes have demanded that the United States take timely steps against this, saying that cooperation between Russia and Iran can wreak havoc in Europe, Eurasia and the Gulf region in the coming times.

While making this demand, James Phillips and Peter Brookes pointed to changes in the Gulf region due to cooperation between Iran and Russia. The research fellows say that China’s mediation established the diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, a major basis for Iran’s cooperation with Russia. Also, Phillips and Brookes concluded that the cooperation of Russia and Iran was also behind Syria getting membership in the Arab League under the regime of Assad once again.
All these things caused a shock to the US Foreign Policy, and if more disaster was to be avoided, the US has to take steps against the cooperation of Russia and Iran from now on, say these two experts. At the same time, James Phillips and Peter Brookes have sternly criticised the position adopted by the Biden administration regarding Iran.
