violenceIn an interview with a news channel on his visit to UAE, the Prime Minister of Pakistan proposed initiating talks with India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif admitted that Pakistan had learnt hard lessons from three wars fought with India, which has only led to poverty and unemployment in the country. Hence, Pakistan has now proposed to the Prime Minister of India to open dialogue. However, within a few hours of the proposal, the Prime Minister’s office sent a message that no discussions are possible till India does not revoke the abrogation of Article 370. This quick rebuttal was seen as India did not respond to the proposal.

In this regard, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi presented India’s position that talks and improved relations are possible only in an environment free from terrorism and violence. Bagchi clearly indicated that this has been a consistent stand of India. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also warned Pakistan that no one could use terrorism to hold India hostage for talks.
