Kyiv/ Washington/ Moscow: In the past few days, claims have been made that Russia is planning to launch a ‘Spring Offensive’ against Ukraine. These claims have said that various meetings held by Russian President Vladimir Putin, new army recruitments, and changes in the defence forces are all indications of preparations for a new attack. In the background of this ongoing preparation by Russia, Ukraine and the western alliance have also started activities and the visit of the high-level delegation of the United States to Ukraine is a part of it.
On Monday, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, Deputy National Advisor Jonathan Finer, and Senior Defense Department official Colin Cahal arrived on a visit to Ukraine. The State Department said that the US delegation is visiting Ukraine to ensure that US support to Ukraine will continue against Russian aggression. The delegation will meet senior officials, including President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Initially, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov met the US delegation.
It was informed in the press conference that the delegation meeting with the Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, was held. Ukrainian military and intelligence officials were present during the meeting through video conferencing. Ukrainian officials briefed the US delegation on the situation on the front line against Russia. The US officials in the delegation warned that Russian President Putin is intensifying the attack on Ukraine and that the western alliance, along with Ukraine, must respond to it.
Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the US has provided nearly $25 billion in defence aid to Ukraine. The US Congress has approved another $45 billion in funds for Ukraine. In the past few days, the US has supplied Ukraine with advanced weapons such as Patriot missile systems and Bradley tanks. But despite receiving such a huge amount of arms support, the tone is emerging from western circles that Ukraine has not achieved the expected success. A few days ago, two former senior US officials warned that Ukraine has a few weeks left.
Meanwhile, the US delegation visited Germany and Poland before visiting Ukraine. Both countries have contributed greatly to Ukraine’s arms supply and military training. More than 600 Ukrainian soldiers are also being trained at the US defence base in Germany. US Defense Chief Mark Milley also recently visited the base in Germany and inspected the training program. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has reportedly visited the military headquarters set up for the Ukraine campaign. At this time, Shoigu was informed about the military situation on the eastern front of Ukraine, the Defense Department said it.
