Moscow/Beijing: Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that cooperation between Russia and China had reached new heights in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s senior adviser Wang Yi is visiting Russia and meeting President Putin and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday. It was informed the two countries that issues relating to the strengthening of relations between the two countries were discussed on occasion. With this growing closeness between Russia and China, the Western alliance has become uneasy and has started to pressure China.
A few days ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken alleged that China is preparing to supply arms to Russia. Although China has denied the allegation, it has clearly indicated that it will not back down from deepening cooperation with Russia. As part of that, Yi, who is a senior adviser to Xi Jinping, is on a visit to Russia.
During the visit, Wang Yi met with Russian President Putin and foreign minister Lavrov and discussed bilateral cooperation. Russian media reported that Putin had said he was eager to welcome Chinese President Jinping. Jinping is scheduled to visit Russia next month. Jinping’s visit is considered significant after a year since the Ukraine conflict. Over the past year, China has greatly assisted Russia on economic, trade and military fronts. Yi’s visit, followed by a potential visit from Xi Jinping, indicates that this support is set to continue.
Meanwhile, NATO has reacted to this closeness between Russia and China. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has alleged that China is preparing to provide military assistance to Russia. Stoltenberg also said the US and NATO had received information in this regard.
