Will welcome India's efforts to end Ukraine conflict

Washington: White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the US would welcome the Indian Prime Minister’s efforts to get Russia to stop its conflict in Ukraine. For this, Prime Minister Modi can take the decisions he feels are necessary, John Kirby added. India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval recently visited the US, then Russia and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Against this backdrop, the statements made by John Kirby have been picked up by the Indian media.

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held a few months ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advised Russian President Putin that ‘this is not the time for war’. The United States and European countries welcomed this statement of Prime Minister Modi. The Western countries and the media claimed that this conflict waged by Russia was unacceptable to India. However, India, which expressed its hope that the conflict in Ukraine should stop, also asserted that it is necessary to resolve the security concerns of all countries. Subsequently, India has realized that Russia’s concern about its security is legitimate, and the United States and its partner countries are not ready to target it.

However, the European countries that are against Russia, including United States, are aware that India can play an important role as a country of influence on Russia so that the conflict in Ukraine does not escalate. The United Nations also acknowledged that India’s influence was used at some points during the Ukraine conflict. In such a situation, the visit of India’s National Security Adviser to United States, United Kingdom, and then Russia is attracting attention. Ajit Doval met and discussed with President Putin during his visit to Russia. Details of the talks have not been disclosed. But due to this, a discussion has started that India may be making new efforts to stop the conflict in Ukraine.

In such a situation, while answering a question asked at a press conference, John Kirby stated that if the Indian Prime Minister tries to stop the conflict in Ukraine, we will welcome it. But John Kirby has made him the villain by blaming only Russian President Putin for this conflict. Also, saying that only Ukraine has the right to decide for itself, Kirby has indicated that Ukraine’s conditions will have to be accepted to stop the conflict.
